During the Riaca workshop last Friday-Saturday, enough interest
was expressed in working on a standard, text-based, for the inter-
communication of mathematical expressions. Several groups are
presently working towards this goal, Open Math, Posso XDR, Multi,
and HCM proposal, etc. During the Riaca meetings, it also became
clear that the right time to discuss a joint standard is now; a
few months from now uniformization will be much more costly.

We are at a phase that we would like to have input from all the
people working on the area to establish the embryo of a standard.
This workshop will allow us to give the main document a big push
in the right direction. Further steps can be followed by other
	means of communication.

I was asked to organize this workshop in Zurich and here are the
	preliminary details:

	Friday December 17, 1993.

10:15 - Mid-morning break followed by initial meeting
(we start at 10:30 or so to give time to the people
who want to fly into Zurich this same day)

12:30 - Lunch, Dozenten Foyer, Main building

		14:00 - 18:00 Afternoon meetings, including a coffee-break
			to be served in place.

		19:00 - Dinner

We have booked rooms at the hotel Limmathof, which is very
reasonable, centrally located and two blocks from our meeting
		place.

	Saturday December 18, 1993

		 9:00 - 12:00 Meeting (including coffee break)

		12:30 - 14:00 Lunch in a local restaurant

		14:30 - 17:00 Wrap-up session (including coffee break).

All the meetings will take place in the IFW building (Haldeneggsteig 4)
	Room D44.

Our institute will cover all the costs of lunch and coffee breaks,
plus one night at the hotel Limmathof (single), plus up to SFr 200.00
for reimbursement of the ticket to Zurich. We have scheduled the meeting
on Friday-Saturday, so that those who fly can use the reduced tariffs
	for weekends.

Hotel reservations are rather crucial, by the end of the year Zurich
is very busy, and booking a hotel is a gamble. If you plan to come,
please confirm with me or Frau Silvia Wertli (wertli@inf.ethz.ch) as
	soon as possible.

I will be forwarding some advance material to all those who will be
attending. This will be done by the end of this week. If any of the
participants would like to send some additional material, please send
it to Frau Wertli so that it arrives here this weekend.

I included in this mailing list, not only the predicted attendants,
but those who may also be interested. The above lists do not mean any
division or classification, everyone who is interested is (strongly)
	invited to participate.

	  Best wishes, Gaston Gonnet.

	ToDo: (1) e-mail to wertli@inf.ethz.ch to register
	       (2) send some advance material you may want predistributed
	       (3) call me (41-1-632-7470) if you need more information
